Gail Higgins

After commencing art lessons 1995 Gail became increasingly interested in painting Australia’s beautiful native flora and fauna. She developed a keen interest in birds and now devotes more and more of her time to painting them, particularly the sea and shore birds around the Brisbane bayside area where she lives.

Gail is an active member of the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society, currently editing the bi-monthly newsletter. She is also a member of Nature in the Raw group of wildlife artists, the Pastel Society of Australia, the Marwell Art Society of UK, Old School House Gallery in Cleveland, and the Mary Cairncross Environment Association, Melany. In 2000 two of her paintings were selected for a QWASI exhibition sponsored by Faber-Castell in Nuremburg, Germany.

Gail’s many awards include Best Bird Art QWASI Wildlife in Art exhibitions in 1998, 2002 and 2003. In 2004 she was awarded a Silver Medal at the Wildlife Art Society of UK International Exhibition in Bristol and was a major winner at the Courier Mail Art Show 2005, In 2005, with Sandra Temple, Gail produced “Aussie Friends – in our own backyard”, an art and nature information book for children based on images of their original art.

She has a Cert IV in Workplace Assessment and Training and conducts workshops and classes in drawing with pastel and graphite. Her work can be found at the Old School House Gallery in Cleveland and in private collections throughout Australia and overseas
