About Pedro
My family and friends call me Pedro as my great, great grand father was Spanish, so this is my “Nom de Plume”. I have been interested in painting and drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I think I inherited this interest from my father who was a very good artist. I studied illustration and costume design, lettering and commercial art at St. Martins School of Art in Charing Cross Road, London, however, I did not take up art seriously until I came to live in Queensland, Australia. I studied books on Oil Painting and Drawing and started to produce reasonably good paintings (at least my wife thought so). I joined the Artist Guild of Australia and eventually became Vice President and during my time with them I was able to study under well known Queensland Artists at weekend workshops arranged by the Guild in various mediums (water colours, acrylics, pen an ink, oil and pastel). I am able to paint any subject and some of my past commissions have been houses, waterfalls, Indian Gods, portraits, show dogs, children, wildlife, soldiers, steam trains, ballet dancers, sea and landscapes, a cricket match and old English country scenes. I am currently a member of the Pastel Society of Australia, I am also a member of the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society Inc. and a member of the Royal Queensland Art Society Inc., Gold Coast branch, where I received 2 commendations for my works that I entered in their pastel exhibition of 2005, and a highly commended in the oil section in their 117 th art exhibition 2006, and third prize in another exhibition also held at Royal Queensland Art gallery.
I received first prize for pastels in the Currumbin Springfest exhibition of 2006.
I am also a member of the Gold Class Art group, which was formed last year by a group of artists that meet together each week.
My wife and I are now retired and are living in Runaway Bay , on the Gold Coast.
