About Mary
A love of the beauty of nature inspires me to paint, and to have it as a permanent record of our diminishing natural environment. An early introduction to “The Gould League” at school has left a lasting impression.
My first love is Australian birds and animals, but also birds of the world particularly of the parrot family. Rampant development, and destruction of natural habitat has lead to many endangered birds and animals, throughout the world. As an artist I would like pass onto my children and theirs, that permanent record that reminds them of the beauty of their Australian heritage. We as Australians must not forget how beautiful it is nor how easy it is lost.
I also paint domestic animals such as fowls, dogs and horses. I paint in mainly oils, but also enjoy acrylic, watercolour and coloured pencil, and have done so since 2002.
I have attended many different workshops to extend my skills in a range of mediums, and subjects, including David Taylor, Tom Offord, Lyn Butchart and Lyn Diefenbach. As Workshop Coordinator for Woodford Art Group in 2006&2007 we ran regular stimulating workshops in all mediums.
I have participated in numerous local art shows with some success, including winning People’s Choice 2004 and runner up in 2006 W.C.A.G members exhibition .I also paint on commission and have donated to the Old English Game Club of Queensland and The Parrot Society of Australia.
As I work in the art shop at Caboolture as well as doing some Supply teaching my time is limited, but my passion for painting stirs me on.
I look forward to a busy and rewarding year in 2008.
